From its humble beginning of distributing a few loads of 50lb bags of potatoes about 20 years ago, the AG of Maine Produce Department has evolved into an important perishable program for retailers.

Today, the experienced staff (over 75 years combined experience in the produce industry) offers each retailer advice and guidance to increase sales and profits, as well as excellent customer service.

Fresh produce arrives daily from all major growing areas across the United States, Canada and from overseas depending on the season. A major broker, with field inspectors, purchases product from both California and Florida on a daily basis and arranges for the shipment to the warehouse in Maine. A buyer in the Boston produce market supplements these shipments to assure the freshest product is always available.

Upon arrival at the warehouse, all product is inspected for quality before it is received. Strict quality control assures retailers receive the best product available.

The top selling category is bananas. Product is ripened at Yell-O-Glow Corporation in Chelsea, Mass. to guarantee the right color and proper maturity.

The department also provides a full line of associated products such as refrigerated dressings, dips and nuts, plus assistance with sourcing supplies and display fixtures.

Floral is the infant of the Produce Department and continues to grow each year. Offerings include an extensive assortment for each major holiday and seasonal needs, in addition to assorted daily bouquets. Floral arrangements are offered on a pre-order basis.
